Deaf Visual Arts

The Deaf Visual Arts Program is DEAF, Inc.’s arts and culture program and consists of a combination of artwork, film, theatre, poetry, comedy, dance, and visual art – all presented or delivered in American Sign Language (ASL).

​Now in its eighth year, the program encompasses ASL tours at art museums, a dynamic youth program, engaging art classes, informative culture presentations, an enriching film festival, the celebrated Deaf Visual Arts Festival, and an esteemed award ceremony honoring the achievements of deaf and hard of hearing artists.

Deaf Visual Arts Festival

The Festival celebrates diversity and culture through visual and performance art. The event features over 30 deaf artists displaying their work and engaging with the public.

1904 Deaf Film Festival

The 1904 Deaf Film Festival will champion 25 emerging deaf filmmakers and their production. This event will take place online over the course of one month.

ASL Tours with Deaf Docents

ASL Tours with Deaf Docents provide museum experiences led by deaf individuals who communicate directly with attendees using sign language.

Art Classes with
Deaf Artists

Art classes are designed specifically for the Deaf community. These classes will be taught by deaf artists.

Art & Cultural Presentations

Art & Cultural Presentations delve into topics such as deaf art, culture, sign language, history, and the personal experiences of deaf artists, exploring how these elements have influenced their passion for art.

Youth Art Program

We connect deaf artists with students through hands-on projects, empowering them with experiences that can spark a passion or interest in pursuing a career in the arts.

Recognition

Each year, we host an annual awards ceremony to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of artists that participate in the program.
